The theme of IPC APEX EXPO 2018 was “Succeed at the Velocity of Technology.” The sold-out exhibition in San Diego, CA certainly lived up to its billing, with almost 500 vendors showcasing cutting-edge technology for the PCB and electronics industries.

The exhibits, professional courses and show-floor presentations provided insight into new materials and processes. The event highlighted Industry 4.0 and new applications such as e-textiles. This year, IPC APEX introduced the IPC APEX EXPO Innovation Awards, allowing members to compete with their technologies in the following categories:

• PCB (printed circuit board) design
• PCB fabrication
• Assembly
• Test and Inspection
• Services, other (example: software)

Also introduced this year was the STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) program for two local high schools. Students learned about the PCB industry and discovered potential career options within an exciting growth industry.
